The means by which CC&CSC gets coke up to the quarry is rather interesting. From the CNR siding, a 50 ton load is winched up most of the way by cable. This small Plymouth mechanical drive switcher was then coupled on to the hopper, and the engine and car struggled up a short switchback. And I do mean STRUGGLE, because yours truly was on board and witnessed the whole procedure. If the operator (engineer) could not clear the switch points and change gears just right for the next leg of the switchback, the hold process would have to be started again at the bottom of the switchback.
